Our Values
Football challenges youth to excel physically, mentally, and socially, and builds strength of character with proper coaching and mentorship. To be successful, players must learn to work as a team, support each other and mature as individuals.
Courage, resiliency and leadership skills are also developed in young players. The athletes that play for our teams are proud of their football accomplishments and the experience improves self-confidence, self-image and interpersonal skills.
Schedule of Play
Newcomers to the sport are welcome to add their name to our distribution list or at our non-contact mini-camps in May and June. These are early opportunities to gauge an athlete’s enthusiasm for the game.
Schedule and Commitment: August 1 to early November
The August Training Camp is the evaluation period for PeeWee that includes full equipment and gives coaches the best opportunity to see a young athlete play the game and begin to learn the contact portion of the game.
ALL Atom players make the team.
Training Camp begins August 1 as July is a non-participation time for minor football clubs as prescribed by Football Alberta.
We realize that summer plans are already being made and still encourage you to try-out for the team as we try to be flexible in our assessment and recognizing the importance of family commitments.
Many of our athletes also have a desire to play hockey, basketball and indoor soccer. Again, we want to encourage growth and an appetite for many sports (or other activities) and will be flexible. However, we do ask that you be sensitive to the commitments made by coaches, managers, teammates and other volunteers, thus, you may find the commitment to two sports too demanding. If you have concerns about the schedule please contact us at ColtsFB@hotmail.com.
Games are played on Saturdays for Pee Wee and Sundays for Atom and are held at state-of-the-art Shouldice Athletic Park which boasts three all-weather FIELD-TURF fields. The turf allows the athletes to play on a modern surface that does not deteriorate with use or in inclement weather.
The game is full contact tackle football, even for the Atoms. Atoms play half field games, while the Peewees play full field.
Practices are held four times a week (T-F) 630-830pm during the month of August and are reduced to 3 times a week (T-Th) once school begins, unless otherwise directed by coaching or management staff.
Football-The Affordable Sport
All of the equipment needed for football is supplied by the South Calgary Colts organization. You need only supply a good pair of cleats. Soccer cleats will suffice but there are cleats designed specifically for football and are available at various retail outlets.
Our team does participate in a few fundraisers throughout the season, including a Silent Auction/Parent party. Parent volunteers are required to make this night a success. More information will follow.
